A free, women-led winter event series based in Truckee/Tahoe.

From avalanche awareness to film nights and sled meetups, W.O.W brings women together to connect, learn, and celebrate winter in every form.

About the Series

W.O.W — Women Owning Winter grew out of the Ladies’ Avalanche Awareness Night, now entering its third year. What started as one evening of motorized avalanche education has grown into a full season of gatherings that empower women to show up, ride, learn, and connect — from sleds to skis and everything in between.

Every event is free to attend, community-driven, and open to all experience levels.

Community Impact

At its core, Women Owning Winter is about connection — building a stronger, more inclusive mountain community where women feel supported to show up as they are. Each event offers a different way to do that: learning together, riding together, or simply sharing space.

Two of the five events include raffles that give back directly to causes we care about:

  • Ladies’ Avalanche Awareness Night — supporting the Sierra Avalanche Center, which provides critical avalanche education and forecasting for the Tahoe region. You can also donate directly here.

  • Tits Deep for Breast Cancer Film Night — supporting Tits Deep for Breast Cancer, a nonprofit raising awareness and funds for young women’s breast health. They provide education, advocacy, and direct support for women under 40 who lack access to early detection or are currently undergoing treatment. You can also donate directly here.

The remaining events — Sled Mechanics Night, the On-Snow Backcountry Meetup, and the Women’s Motorized Meetup — are designed to keep that same spirit of community going all season long. They’re casual, inclusive, and rooted in one simple goal: bringing women together through winter.
